As a chapter of the Autism Society of North Carolina, our goal is to locally implement the mission, value and visions of the North Carolina Autism Society, prioritzing and meeting the needs of the Orange and Chatham county families we serve.
Mission Statement
The Autism Society of North Carolina is committed to providing support and promoting opportunities which enhance the lives of individuals within the autism spectrum and their families.
Vision Statement
The Autism Society of North Carolina strives to create a community where people within the autism spectrum and their families receive respect, services, and supports based on individual differences, needs, and preferences.
- We respect and value the uniqueness of all individuals within the autism spectrum; when provided the opportunity, each person can make a unique contribution to his/her family, community, and to society.
- We demonstrate respect by advancing an individualized, person-centered approach that is based upon the person’s distinctive strengths, abilities, interests, and choices; the person is the priority, rather than any philosophical stance.
- We promote better public awareness and understanding of the autism spectrum and advocate for public policy and funding that expands research as well as medical, therapeutic, educational, vocational, recreational, social, and residential options.
- We support individuals within the autism spectrum, their families, and their friends; we acknowledge that parents and other primary caregivers know the individual best.
- We encourage and promote cooperative relationships among schools, agencies, organizations, and other professionals involved in the lives of people within the autism spectrum. We value relationships founded on honesty, integrity, and mutual respect.
