ARC of Orange County
The Arc of Orange County works with and for people who have or are at risk for developmental disabilities to promote full participation in all areas of life in our community.
 
Advocacy is the primary focus of the Autism Society of North Carolina. ASNC has regional advocates throughout the state, including a statewide Bi-lingual (Spanish-English) advocate. Parent Advocates offer expertise in a variety of areas including:
  • Information and Referral – find resources in the community
  • School Issues – IEPs, suspension/discipline, advocating at school
  • Training and Workshops – Topics include: IEP’s, Information for Families of Newly Diagnosed Children, Transition to Adulthood, What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?, and Staying Safe in the Community.
  • Mental Health Services – Access the system and place your child on the waiting list for services.
  • Transition Planning and Adult Support – Plan for the future
  • Connect with families in communities throughout the state
  • Crisis Services – Where to turn when you need help.
Exceptional Children's Assistance Center (ECAC)
ECAC is North Carolina’s Parent Center and is committed to improving the lives and education of allchildren.  Established in 1983, ECAC offers a variety of projects and services designed to meet the needs of NC parents, families, students, educators, and other professionals. ECAC is home to three key parent education programs:
 
 
Family Support Network of North Carolina (FSN)
Family Support Network of North Carolina promotes and provides support for families with children who have special needs. A directory is provided that enables families to search for national and state organizations. Telephone toll free 800.852.0042.
  
 
New Hope ASD Consulting
Provides various services for individuals diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder including ABLES evaluation, IEP assistance and ABA therapy.  A website will be available shortly.  In the meantime, please call 919-260-1077 or click here to email.
 
 
OPC Area Program Chapel Hill, NC
 
OPC Area Program is the local governmental agency with responsibility for oversight and management of publicly-funded mental health, developmental disability, and substance abuse services in Orange, Person and Chatham counties. OPC provides screening, triage and referral for individuals needing services in the area; recruits and monitors an array of community service providers; and manages the distribution of state monies for services to consumers.

OPC is governed by an Area Board. The Area Board is comprised of one county commissioner from each of the three counties OPC serves. The commissioners appoint the remaining board members. These remaining board members are citizens, which must include representatives of various constituent and professional groups specified by statutes governing OPC. As the governing body, the Board exercises the powers and duties conferred by the General Assembly.

The Area Board meets at their Administrative Offices in Chapel Hill every second Thursday of each
month from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., the meeting is open to the public.
 
 
Spectrum Resources of North Carolina, Inc.
 
Spectrum Resources of North Carolina, Inc. is committed to empowering people with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families.  Their innovative, kinformational courses, workshops and specialized consulting services provide opportunities to promote acceptance and understanding through knowledge and support.  Please note they only serve portions of Chatham county
 
 
 
TEACCH is an evidence-based service, training, and research program for individuals of all ages and skill levels with autism spectrum disorders.  Established in the early 1970s by Eric Schopler and colleagues, the TEACCH program has wored with thousands of individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families.  TEACCH provides clinical services such as diagnostic evaluations, parent training and parent support groups, social play and recreation groups, individual counseling for higher-functioning clients, and supported employment.  In addition, TEACCH conducts training nationally and provides consultation for teachers, residential care providers, and othe rprofessionals from a variety of disciplines.  Research activities include pyschological, education, and biomedical studies.  The administrative headquarters of the TEACCH program are in Chapel, North Carolina and there are nine regional TEACCH centers around the state of North Carolina.  Most clinical services from the TEACCH centers are free to citizens of North Carolina.
 
 
TelAbility
 
TelAbility is an innovative, community oriented, interdisciplinary program from the UNC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation that uses telecommunications to improve the lives of children with disabilities. Using real time video-conferencing and internet technologies, TelAbility provides comprehensive, coordinated, family centered care to children with disabilities across North Carolina and offers education, training, and peer support for people who care for them.
